One of a kind lethal art piece. An artistic interpretation of a samurai swordPurchased directly from the AS vendor at the Renaissance festival in MN 2021 and have kept it regularly cleaned and oiled since then. I Have cut through a melon and some bottles with it, so there are minimal light scratches on the blade. Details on the sword:i dont have a way to measure the weight but i estimate it to be 1 and a half pounds. It feels more like a wakizashi than a katana. It can easily be swung with one hand. The woodworking is what attracted me so much to this piece. Its beautiful and so well put together. The saya has a sort of rhombus shape that tapers from wide at the tsuba to thin at the tip of the blade, it gives it a smooth feel i cant describe with words or show in pictures. Best i can say is its elegant. Also the saya is not like a traditional katana in the way the blade rests inside. The saya is lined with felt and the blade has full friction throughout the saya when sheathed, so thats why there is no habaki. The sword will never come out on its own, it could even be used as a boken when sheathed if thats what your into.The handle has a very comfortable hourglass shape. The ito is very tight. The gorgeous tsuba has such fine detail to get lost in. One of my favorite tsuba ever. So much so i named the sword the sunflower samurai, after the sunflower samurai in samurai champloo.The blade is razor shard and has very high hardness like L6 bainite. So they say. Idk im not a metallurgist but it is a tough sword. It holds an edge very well. The katana is in good condition, with some minor scratches on the scabbard (saya) as you can see from the pictures. The blade is in excellent condition, and to keep it that way it is recommended that you apply oil to it after you place it back in the scabbard (saya) to prevent rusting and to avoid touching the blade with bare hands. I have been told this sword was made by, Ujifusa. He was a swordsmith during the Edo period (1500'- 1800's) (I myself do not know. Had a so called expeert l-00-k at it and this is what he told me.) Sword is in a leather WWII monted scabbard. Scabbard does have some tears at the ring and snap era. Handle is wrapped in black string type material. There is a small brass figure on each side of handle. On bottom of handle next to the Tsuba there is a brass dragon. The handle appers to be crack on one side where the pin is at. Does not seem to go all the way through. ( if you wear nearly 500 years old you would be crack to) Handle tight and will not fall aprat. Tsuba has butteries and flowers. There is also a dragon on end of handle. The blade is signed, l-00-ks like the charcters were added to the top of the metal not envrave. Blade measures 23 5/8" long, with handle. Measures, 29 3/16" without handle. Total lenth when togeter is aprx 32 1/2" long.. I know nothing about this sword except for what I see, and what I have been told. See all pictures in listing. Brown accents with beautiful gold lacquered Saya. Hanwei model SH2010. From Catalog Website: Each piece in the Bushido Series (SH1210) has a hand forged & folded K120C powder steel blade, differentially tempered using a traditional claying method to produce an HRC60 edge, HRC40 back. The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent and the grain pattern (hada) shows distinct layers. The saya are deeply lacquered in gold with inlaid brass cherry blossom (sakura) flowers. High quality ray skin (same) is used on the tsuka of the katana and Wakizashi, while the tsuka of the tanto is of blackened and bronzed iron, with detailing in gold and silver and a battle scene decoration. The tsuka-ito on the katana and wakizashi and the sageo on all three pieces are woven from premium. Japanese cotton. the fuchi and kashira are buffalo horn. Here, you get a really amazing short Japanese sword that has a shark skin grip and the original scabbard. The scabbard and sword or dagger have iron accents with a few cherry blossom and gold guidling details.
French Officer’s small sword profusely carved. Most likely mid 1800s, could be earlier - I’m not really sure. Straight blade of lozenge section. Brass hilt, the front shell-guard is decorated with crownless rooster, quillon is decorated with lion's head, the loop-guard decorated with floral motifs and pommel with bees and flower. Horn grip with twisted metal wire. Solid with no play present. Collapsible thumb guard still works. Front shell guard is damaged and area of repair is evident. I can’t tell if the repair was done during its useful life or later in an attempt to preserve this piece of history. In either case - repair did not hold. Please refer to pictures. It would be at least double what I’m asking if it were mot for this damage. If you hang the sword on the wall, this area is not visible at all.
