This is a Michael Bell KatanaThe blade is a cable steel piece made by Mr. Bell.The ito feels like suede in a tope or puddy color. Samegawa looks like a full wrap lacquered black. Fittings look antique but I cannot be sure. The tsuba and menuki are a dragon theme.The saya is a blue colored saya. Gold and silver spots go around in a spiral. Looks like a metal koiguchi.Michel Bell owns Dragonfly Forge. The blade was recently polished and has not been used for cutting sense then, however, there are some notable dings on the blade. Notable condition issuesIto is not super tight but sill on the tight side. I would consider it usable.The ito has some of sights of handling. The tsuba has some wiggle The saya has some dings and scuffs. It looks like it was stored before it was fully dry. It is possible some of the issues may buff out.The new polish has some minor blemishes but is overall quite good, no cutting scratchesThe cable steel has some flaws (this is common with cable steel katana) and they are cosmetic only. Small spots on the blade and one long line along the boshi.Michael Bell has a reputation for making durable unique works of art. The mount was not done by Mr. Bell however the blade was (and possible the habaki). I believe his son Gabriel did the mount. The tsuba, fuchi, and kashira appear look to be antique pieces. I am not sure how old they are. The blade is in good and usable condition. The issues are all minor on the grand scale. Michel Bell's work does not come up second hand very often. I don't know what his new works cost but I think he used to charge between 3-4k for a bare and unpolished blade when this was made. Our Yoshimitsu Tanto (SH2098) is made to honor this great smith by replicating one of his surviving blades. The forged T10 high-carbon blade, with its distinctive temper line (hamon), is superb. The tsuka is ray skin (same) wrapped and the kashira and kurikata are of buffalo horn. The kozuka and the menuki are decorated in the hollyhock crest (mon) of the Tokugawa family. Tachi side Boshi turns into interesting Muneyaki. Saya dated to 1680 although no attribution to who wrote the Sayagaki. Saya is splitting and is original and old Tiger Stripe Honoki. The Habaki is old and made from solid silver which is unusual for old Habaki. The Habaki is strange... it meets the Mune at Hamachi, typically Habaki have a cut out at the top so it slides up the shinogi but this one doesn't.
